State Command Chief Master Sergeant, Kentucky Air National Guard
Command Chief Master Sergeant Steven D. Best serves as the State Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Kentucky Air National Guard in Frankfort. He was appointed to the position in April 2025.
Under Article V, Section 1(b) of the EANGKY By-Laws, the State Command Chief Master Sergeant serves as a non-voting member of the Executive Council in an advisory capacity. Chief Best has taken up the work of reinvigorating joint participation in EANGKY and encouraging Kentucky Air National Guard members to engage in association business.
He enlisted in the Kentucky Air National Guard in February 1998 as a 2T2X1 air transportation specialist. He has deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.
He was selected as first sergeant for the 123rd Logistics Readiness Squadron in 2010 and was named Kentucky Air National Guard First Sergeant of the Year in 2015. He served as command chief master sergeant of the 123rd Airlift Wing before assuming his current position.
